The REAL reason why the world hates Christians

The REAL reason why the world hates Christians.

I hear all kind of excuses as to why the world hates Christians. "They're judgmental, harsh, self righteous, arrogant, holier than thou, critical, bigots,narrow-minded, and hypocrites." Many use these excuses to cover up the real reason for why they really don't like Christians. I was once on the opposite side, and I know how uncomfortable a true Christian made me feel. Their light exposed my darkness and what they said offended me because I knew I wasn't living right. I loved my sin and the message that they preached contradicted my entire lifestyle. Being real, a lot of people are "turned off" from Christianity because they want to be the god of their life. They want to make their own rules and live how they want, not submit to the Lord Jesus Christ. So they cover it up with "Christians are judgmental" and throw out all kind of excuses as to why they don't like Christians. The truth is offensive to those who are content with living a lie and you will make many enemies from preaching the truth! (Galatians 4:16 Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?) I know that we all can do a better job in being more gentle and patient with those who oppose the gospel but here are the REAL reasons why the world hates Christians!

1.The world loves it own
An unsaved person can smell a true Christian from a mile away, and they typically don't like the smell. (John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.) A godly life is going to be seen and going to be felt, and oftentimes going to be criticized and persecuted because the presence of Jesus is in your life so strong. Your life is like a mirror to them and it convicts them and makes them see the impurity and sin in their life. You think that people are happy that you're living for God and you no longer "turn up" and indulge in the sinful lifestyle like them? Nope! People like when you are just like them. They also only like people who stay and play in the gutter with them. When you rise above you will be despised and shunned. The world will celebrate and applaud your sin but talk bad about you when you choose to live Godly. When I was living in sin and ruining my life, no one had an opinion. Soon as I got saved, all of a sudden everyone had something to say. The world truly loves their own! (1 Peter 4:3 You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy-their immorality, lust, drunkenness, wild parties, and idolatry.Of course you former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do, so they slander you. )

2.The world hates Jesus
Why are we trying to be loved and accepted by the same world that crucified our Savior? If the world hated and killed a perfect, sinless man, what do you think they're going to do to us?! If they called Jesus a demon what do you think they'll call us? The world hates Jesus because He stands against their wickedness,"the world cannot hate you but it hates me because I testify of it that their deeds are evil. For everyone who does evil hate the light and does not come to the light for fear that his deeds will  be exposed.(John 3:20) Jesus has always and will always be the most controversial figure in history. It’s far easier to get folks to agree about spirituality when it’s linked to “God” or some “Higher Power” but the moment you narrow the discussion to Jesus Christ you become the enemy of all. You can even say Buddha, Confucius, or Mohammed and no one cares. Say Jesus Christ is the only way, people get noticeably mad. Jesus is a stumbling block! Jesus challenged and rebuked the religious people of his time. He called out their hypocrisy and offended them, which drove them to kill Him. (John 15:20-21 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.but all these things they will do to you for my name's sake because they do not know the One who sent me.)

3.The gospel that we preach
The world hates the the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ. The cross is offensive and foolishness to those who are perishing.( 1 Corinthians 1:18)  It's a two edged sword that pierces the heart and slashes through false religious ideologies. It wounds the conscience of the hardened sinners. It is a stone of stumbling and rock of offense to those who don't obey(1 peter 2:8) Oh yeah the world loves and embraces the FALSE GOSPEL of prosperity, self esteem, success, and motivational speaking. They love when people tickle their ears and tell them about getting their best life now and how they can live in the world and still have God. They love it because it's no conviction, it tells them exactly what they want in their carnal state, it tickles their ears, it doesn't make them see their sin and how they need to trust in Christ alone for salvation. (2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables) They can't endure the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They don't want to hear that their good works are like filthy rags. They don't want to hear that there is only one way to God and heaven and unless they repent and trust in Christ they will perish. They don't want to hear about self denial and taking up their cross. They don't want to hear about suffering and persecution for Christ.

3. Genuine Christians are hated by the world, counterfeit are loved by the world.

Now the world loves the "fake Jesus" and "Fake Christianity." They love the "Jesus" they can pray to when they want blessings and allows them to live how they want but not the true Jesus of the bible. You ever wondered how so many celebrity pastors are bestfriends with Hollywood celebrities? You ever wondered how unbelievers re-post everything that certain pastors and professing Christians say? You ever wondered why certain Christians are so loved by the world?  Because they are of the world and there is no difference between them.(Luke 6:26 Woe to you when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.) They have a form of religion but deny the power thereof. A Christian who is loved and adored by the world is an oxymoron. A friend of the world is an enemy of God.(James 4:4) False Christians and preachers are loved by the world because they are of the world, preach another gospel, sugarcoat the word, tickle ears, say nothing to offend, and tell you everything you want to hear. Now, I do believe that God can use Christians to reach out to people in the world for a season but after a while they will begin to despise you because of that light. Can you imagine Paul the apostle and John the Baptist being besties with Oprah Winfrey and teaming up with her? She wouldn't want to be around them because they would have been rebuked her and called her to repentance.

4. The enemy has blinded the world
The enemy is the god of this world and has blinded the mind of unbelievers.  (2 Corinthians 4:4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.) They have ears but can't hear, they have eyes but can't see. Our pride also keeps us blind because we think we know more because of our  intellect but the wisdom of the world is foolishness  to God. (1 Corinthians 3:18-19 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God.) The gospel won't make sense in our natural mind, that's why it's by faith. The enemy wants the world to think that Christians are crazy and judgmental because he doesn't want them to come to the true knowledge of Jesus Christ. He wants to keep unbelievers far from Christians because he doesn't want them to be saved. His ultimate goal is the destruction of mankind, and he will do whatever in his power to keep people from the truth. We were once blind too, let's be patient and gentle with our approach. (2 Corinthians 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing)

5. All Christians will be persecuted
God promised all believers persecution. He said that ALL those who live Godly in Christ Jesus WILL be persecuted.(2 Timothy 3:12) Now, I do understand that in America persecution is way more subtle. We're not being killed and put in jail for our faith YET, but there are still other forms of persecution. I do understand that some Christians are persecuted for being rude and arrogant, but true Christians everywhere will be persecuted. On social networks, you will get cursed out and harassed for quoting scriptures, calling out sin, or standing up for God's word. You will become the black sheep of your family for living a Godly life, and many will turn on you. You will all of a sudden become an outcast by former friends, co-workers, and even church members. You will even be spat on or assaulted for preaching the gospel. If people don't have dirt on you, they will make up something. (Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you)

6.This world is not our home
This world is not our home. We are foreigners, nomads, and aliens. We are in the world but not of it!  We are not meant to fit or blend in, we are meant to stand out and be a salt and a  light in a dark place. We are not to get comfortable with this world, our home awaits us in Heaven with Jesus forever!  (Hebrews 13:14 For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in Heaven which is yet to come,)

Just because the world hate you, doesn't mean we should give them a extra reason to. It should ONLY be because of the Christ that's in us and the gospel that we preach. We are to let the word of God offend, not our demeanor, arrogance, or harsh speech. We should not glorify or boast in being hated. We should always be driven by love and go the extra mile even when we're insulted or harshly treated. ( 2 timothy 2:24 The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to all, able to teach, patient when wrong, with gentleness correcting those in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading the the knowledge of truth.) We are not fighting against them, we're fighting for them. The lost are not our enemy, satan is. We have to remember that we were once lost and blinded also but by God's grace and mercy he opened our eyes and graciously saved us. Our ultimate goal should be to see the lost saved, not to prove a point, debate with them, or belittle them. (Jude 1:22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting;save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.)

I made this blog to  encourage my brothers and sisters in the faith who are hated for Christ. Also, to shed light on the true reason for why Christians are hated. The media tries to make Christians look a certain way, but Jesus already told us we would be hated for His name. Sometimes,we think that we are doing something wrong when we are hated and receive backlash. No matter how loving and gentle you are with people, some will still hate it and we must accept that. All Christians from  the early church until now will be hated by the world. Let's be like Paul  and rejoice when we are persecuted for the sake of the gospel! (Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.) Let's take on the attitude of our Lord Jesus Christ and endure through hardships.Let's always examine ourselves and make sure that our heart is in the right place. Let's pray for those who hate us, and pray for our brothers and sisters across the world being persecuted. Let's sympathize with them and continue to show sincere love. Let's continue spreading the gospel, being a light, and fervently serving the Lord. You may be hated by this world but know that you are loved by God! Grace and peace.
